#8 - Create a Reading Space
The corner space in our bedroom is mostly used a dumping ground – it’s our chair that gets piled up with crap we don’t want to put away. I had the vison of turning it into a reading nook for a while now. We used to have a globe hanging from the ceiling. I had the idea of turning the globe into a lamp. With a few holes and a lot of hot glue I sort of created a lamp. It worked for all of 5 hours. Then I came back to see that the glue I used didn’t hold up and the lamp was resting on the chair (and possible a huge fire risk).
I decided to forgo the lamp idea as we already have a little salt lamp on the side table and make an amethyst mobile. I’ve seen similar ones made with quartz, but since it’s in out bedroom I wanted to use a more calming stone.
I found a circular piece of wood in the car – I think Mirko found it at the dump, bought some amethyst key chains at the gem store and stole some clear fishing line from Mirko. Start to finish this was a super easy project – the hardest part was figuring how long to tie each string to have the spiral effect.
I’m super pleased with how this turned out and so far its holding up way better than my globe lamp did. If we do plan on doing more markets next year this is easy enough to recreate and sell!
