#46 - Try a new Style of Yoga

As I begin to venture out of the Baptiste bubble I am keen to try on as many different styles of yoga as possible. I’m lucky to live in a place where teachers have been trained in different styles all over the world. I’ve been exposed to ashtanga, hatha, aerial, bikram and Iyengar yoga in the valley.

Kim at the dance studio in town tried a Buti yoga class at a festival and loved it so much she decided to bring it to Banff. Buti yoga is a dynamic asana practice fused with primal movement, tribal dance and deep core engagement. Bastically its super high energy and a really great way to get out of your head and into your body. She brought in Erica from Okotoks to lead us in an spirited black light class. My practice was super limited with my foot but I was still feeling the beats and the energy in the room.

Now this isn’t a typical or traditional yoga practice, but I’m realizing more and more than anything can be yoga. Yoga is about how you live your life all the time. Walking, reading, breathing can all be yoga when practiced with intention, and performed mindfully.

I’m keen to keep trying out different styles with different teachers. I’d love to try a traditional Kundalini class, explore Anusara and maybe bare it all in a naked yoga class. Every time I experience a new teacher my practice deepens. I encourage everyone who is stuck in a yoga rut, only going to “their” teacher to branch out and try on something new.
